That time again

The birds are singing, the weather is warming, and the spring semester is coming to a close once again. In the studio art building the computer lab is jammed pack and a waiting line for the next opening computer. Everyone is in a frenzy there are tears shed, blood drawn and cries of victory ring out late into the night air. It's a wonderful time to be an interior architecture student. Working tirelessly and a creative frenzy has filled the atmosphere.

I along with the rest of the fourth years are working late into the night in full tilt production mode. Creating and putting finally details on our master pieces that we have been slaving away at for the past couple of months. Hoping our efforts will not have been in vain, as we humbly prepare our projects and selves for presentations for the final weeks.

Struggling 4 Real

So below are two drawings that I have put together for my final presentation of my art classrooms and art patio. The problem being, I started to render them both and they lose a lot of the detailing and look cartoonist. I was working with prism colors, don't really have time for color pencil any suggestions?

More process

Above is an idea for the ceiling material, it is working towards connecting the same sort of idea and level of focus as in the courtyard space. This would be a light reflecting material that would perform similarly to the current ceiling tiles and defuse and deposit the natural light throughout the two classrooms.



Currently in Lindsey's classroom there is a small space dedicated to throwing of clay on the wheel, I am proposing playing off that idea and enlarging the area by creating another layer.



It has been brought to my attention that if I can show/figure out how the recycled tires would be attatched to the i-beams it would only help explain and strengthen my project. That being what it is seen above is a detail of how I believe the covering will work.



Because I am adding doors I needed to figure out a way to still allow the proposed tire/I-beam trills will work with those new improvements. I wish to have reclaimed bricks as palavers that would in a way act as a way of extending the exciting patio; it would also speak a similar language as the rest of the brick and concrete building. The paver's would be more densely packed closer to the patio and disperse as you move away from that. The idea is that this new area would allow for more informal setting as well as a way to gain more natural light if needed for the drawing or piece of artwork being created by the students.



In the end I wish for the focus of the room to be on the students artwork as well as the connection with the outside environment that I am working to create to promote. I am going back to my idea of doors and currently trying to figure out a screen system to keep out the bugs during the nice warm fall and spring months.

Art Patio (Closing the Circle)

Struggling long and hard with the art patio, I've really focused in on trying to connect the environmental circle that man has disrupted in the school. By choosing to use reclaimed materials and now have challenged to look at how those reclaimed tires and eye-beams tie back into the greater Greensboro community. The image above is an idea of how to refocus the community back to how our influence impacts the world in which we live by having nature starting to grow and as time goes those vines will shape and inform the outdoor patio and the amount of light and how the space will be used.

Today, in class we talked about how I need to look at Guilford county maps and gain a better understanding about how roads overlap and interweave. Then take that information to shape the inside of the art classrooms. Focusing in on this because Greensboro has been a gate city for centuries due to all the railway connections and interstate connections that occur in the city itself. I have been charged with finding a Guilford county map and aerial views of the city as well as start to build models of how the light with inform the exterior and interior spaces if I have this weaving fashion. I will continue to stretch design and myself and draw what is in my minds eye as well as start to create architectural documents that will show how these creations can be created and built in the physical world. More drawings and models to come along this line of thoughts.

Conceptual images

Working with another group member we worked on finding out what exactly scared geometry meant to us and being the visual people that we are found more information from images that we found than text. What is above are three of my favorite pieces that we found. Each speak a very different language but I feel if I can pull any singular idea from one of these images my classroom as a whole will be more unified and cohesive to the entirety of the school project.

Environmental cycle

As a class we are all looking at circles in a physical and psychological sense and seeing what that means in the build environment. Trying to find ways to reconnect the broken environmental cycle, in a healthy productive way. Bridging the gaps and disruptions that humankind has created within the respiration and cycle due to our ceaseless mining of resources. In this way attempting to work on the High school and Middle school and find ways to reconnect the circle for that community, providing a healthier living situation for all living organisms. In hopes of uplifting these structures to a higher level even though they are LEED certified they seeming have taken no consecration of the landscaping in which they were building. We wish to return the honor of this climate and landscape back to what it is, so that Mother Nature has a fighting chance against our constant battement and abuse.
